Why do we grieve for someone we do not even know was a question one person asked, regarding the death of Robin Williams. We grieve for the gift of talent lost to the world. We grieve for a life tortured by addiction. We grieve the loss of someone who gave us such a wealth of memories stored in each and every character portrayed. We grieve because in this interdependent web of life, each loss is our loss, each suffering is our suffering.
May we learn to transform the grief, loss and suffering into joyful celebrations and appropriate action. As humans we want to fix things, bind the wounds, heal the emotional scars, eradicate conditions that prompt addictions and suicide. However, sometimes all we can do is provide love and compassionate support-for their life journey is not for us to judge as unfair, or wrong.
This prompts me to be a better listener, and friend. This prompts me to love more fiercely and openly. This prompts me to say, "what can I do for you-how can I help" more often.
